The Experience
South Coast, Privately Operated
The road east from Reykjavík runs between the ocean and a wall of mountains, glaciers and volcanoes — Eyjafjallajökull among them — and every few kilometres something remarkable appears at the roadside. The South Coast is Iceland's most dramatic day trip, and the one where a private vehicle makes the biggest difference to your clients' experience.
It is a long day, and that is the point. Coach itineraries allot fifteen minutes to Skógafoss; we operate to the timings in your programme, and where it allows, the guide gives each place what the moment deserves — an extra quarter of an hour when the light on Reynisfjara is extraordinary, or a shorter stop so the party reaches Vík for a leisurely lunch.
Our driver-guides read the weather along the coast — which can change completely between one waterfall and the next — and, within your itinerary, reorder the stops so that guests meet each place at its best.

The Journey
Typical stops. We never run a fixed route: the stops, their order and the timings are agreed with you for each programme and adjusted on the day for weather and road conditions.
Seljalandsfoss and Gljúfrabúi
A slender 60-metre waterfall that guests can walk all the way behind in summer, watching the coast through a curtain of water. A few hundred metres on, Gljúfrabúi hides inside a mossy canyon entered on stepping stones — a place many visitors never notice.
Skógafoss
Sixty metres high and twenty-five wide, Skógafoss falls in a single, thunderous sheet. Guests can stand at its foot for the full force and the near-constant rainbow, or climb the staircase beside it for the view along the river valley that leads into the highlands.
Sólheimajökull glacier
A tongue of the Mýrdalsjökull ice cap reaches almost to the road. A short walk brings guests face to face with blue ice streaked with volcanic ash; for programmes that want more, we arrange a guided glacier walk or, in winter, the Katla ice cave.
Dyrhólaey
A headland of black cliffs with a huge natural arch, and the southernmost point of the Icelandic mainland. From the top, the view runs along the entire coast. Between May and August the cliffs fill with nesting puffins.
Reynisfjara black sand beach
Jet-black sand, a cliff of basalt columns like a giant's organ pipes, and the Reynisdrangar sea stacks rising from the surf. The waves here are famously powerful and unpredictable; the guide knows exactly where guests should stand and when to step back.
Vík í Mýrdal
Iceland's southernmost village, tucked beneath green slopes with its red-roofed church above. A stop for lunch or coffee here makes a natural turning point before the drive back — with different light on every waterfall on the return.

In winter we can add the Katla ice cave; in summer, a puffin stop at Dyrhólaey or a detour to Kvernufoss. For programmes with more time, the route continues to Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon or the glacier lagoon at Jökulsárlón as a two-day itinerary with an overnight stay.
